Interview Questions:

Why do you want to be a doctor?

When asked such a question, you need to convince the person asking that practicing medicine is extremely important to you, and that you are highly motivated and willing to dedicate all the years and effort needed to become one.

Medicine is not just a profession, Medicine is a calling and the interviewer would like to know that that is how you feel about it. An appropriate answer in an interview could be something along these lines.

Example:

  • "I want to be a doctor mainly because I want to help people."
  • "I’ve always felt the urge to try and relieve the pain of people who are ill, this is a true passion of mine. This why I volunteer on a regular basis and this is why I decided to dedicate my future to this essential profession."
  • "I believe this profession is right for me and I think I have a lot to contribute.”
